Tim was born in 1958. He has an older brother and a younger sister. He was educated at St Kevin’s Primary School (Sisters of Mercy), and Marist College Eastwood in Sydney. He completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy at the Cumberland College of Health Sciences and subsequently worked in various hospitals. At age 25, Tim joined the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), a.k.a. the Divine Word Missionaries. He did his theological studies at Yarra Theological Union in Melbourne, and worked part-time as a physiotherapist at the Aboriginal Medical Health Centre and at what was then Pentridge Prison.
After final profession (1990) and ordination to priesthood (1991), Tim spent seven years in parish ministry in in Mexico City. In 1997 he returned to Melbourne to study Spiritual Direction at the Heart of Life Spirituality Centre, before serving as the SVD’s prefect for theology students and novice and postulant director in Melbourne and Sydney from 1998 to 2004. Tim served as leader (provincial) of the SVD Australia province from 2005-2013, overseeing SVD mission activity in Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. From 2014-2021, Tim was the director of SVD international sabbatical programmes in Nemi, Italy. While there, he also worked with a variety of religious Congregations in the growing area of interculturality.
Tim was ordained Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Brisbane on 22/2/22. He enjoyed the opportunity in Brisbane to renew his understanding of Australian Church and culture while being pastorally active in schools, parishes, cultural communities, and with people dealing with homelessness and mental health issues. He also benefitted greatly from working with people in the ecumenical and interfaith space, as well as those identifying with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Tim finds great meaning in being with and learning from groups of culturally diverse people. He is looking forward enormously to engaging with the diverse people of the Broome diocese and encountering the Spirit of God among them.
